Cosplay Rules & Policies 


General Rules

  • All actual weapons and items that could be considered dangerous are prohibited. This includes, but is not limited to, knives, tazers, pepper spray, BB guns, cap guns, airsoft weapons, paintball guns, water guns, martial arts weaponry, including wooden practice weapons, etc.
  • Bows must not be functional to be allowed.
  • All weapons will be examined upon entering the venue.
  • Items resembling futuristic weapons, fantasy weapons, and non-projectile boffer weapons may be allowed provided they are not handled in a careless, threatening, or destructive manner against persons or property.
  • Please check with staff if you are unsure about your prop.
  • Costumes must be maneuverable enough to enter and exit the stage safely.
  • Costumes, introductions, and actions on stage must be in good taste. This is a family-friendly event!
  • NO blatant nudity/adult related content which includes kissing on stage..
  • Please use some discretion with your character, props and presentation.
  • Also, please keep bad language to an extreme minimum level.
  • The use of fire, glitter, liquids, or any other objects that will cause a mess are prohibited. Leaving any portion of a costume while performing is not encouraged.
  • Upon registration for Colombo Comic Expo 2018, participants provide Organizers the control to use videos and photos of cosplays carried out at the venue/at the event.
  • For safety reasons, live animals, substances which might damage or soil, aerosol sprays, etc are not allowed.
  • No pyrotechnics will be allowed including but not limited to: fire, flash powder, explosives, smoke bombs or fireworks.
  • Entries that could potentially damage the Convention Center facilities, other participants or the wearer will not be allowed.
  • Entries with electric power requirements need to be self-contained. There will be no access to electrical outlets on stage.
  • Surprise the audience, not the Organizers or Staff. If you are planning something completely different, let us know well in advance. All information will be held in the strictest confidence.
  • Smoking is not allowed in the Convention Center.
  • Contestants who leave the building for a smoke break during the preparation period, may lose their turn to appear on stage.
  • Audience are not allowed to run up to the stage area for any reason.
  • Organizers reserve the right to reject the registration of individuals that have broken the rules or behaved inappropriately/ in a belligerent manner to their fellow cosplayers, staff or spectators present.

National Cosplay Competition Rules

  • Be in attendance at Colombo Comic Expo 2018 for the ramp walk and cosplay competition.
  • Points will be awarded by a judging panel.
  • Cosplayers will be awarded prizes based on categories.
